If you are a Home-Based, Charter, or Private School Student***, you must first get clearance by the District Athletic Director - Russ McKinstry, or his secretary, Lori Willadsen. Once the District Athletic Director/Office has cleared an athlete to participate at one of the four high schools, the athlete's family and the high school will receive a placement letter. Contact info for Russ McKinstry's Office Secretary is Lori Willadsen - 970-490-3332 or e-mail at . Please access following site for more info:https://www.psdschools.org/placement-athletics.
***NOTE, athletes outside of our District and interested in gymnastics, girls golf. boys or girls lacrosse - sports not offered in their district, do not need to be placed here per info above. However, they must follow all the step #'s below.
Once Home-Based, Charter or Private School Student is cleared and placed by the District, he/she must print/fill out the following forms and bring to the Athletic Office at Rocky (be sure to check our hours of operation tab on home page), and, pay, in order to get an orange "Permit to Practice" card. A card must be obtained before tryouts of a sport.
WHY MUST AN ATHLETE OBTAIN AN ORANGE CARD BEFORE EACH SPORT THEY TRYOUT FOR?
Because Colorado HS Sports Association (CHSAA) requires all athlete's in Colorado to have physical info on file with their school (Rocky - Ms. Seale - Athletic Secretary), registered, eligibility checked/cleared, along with proof of payment shown before an athlete may participate in any sports season. Once this has been done, an orange card is issued.
Winter orange cards will begin to be issued approx. Oct. 21. Needed for official start date of Nov. 18 (see bottom of page for more info).
Spring orange cards will begin to be issued approx. mid January for official start date of March 2 (see bottom of page for more info).
STEP #1 - PRINT OUT FORMS:
2020-2021 High School Athletic Participation & Release (Participation Espanol)
(Note: it is the parent/students responsibility to know when the athletes physical expires and plan accordingly to replace expired physical the day after expiration. If physical expires during athletes sport season, athlete will not be allowed to participate further until a new physical has been brought in.)
Per CHSAA Bylaw 1780, all participants must have a current, annual physical. The SMAC committee unanimously agreed and determined for the safety of all student-athletes, telemedicine and virtual physicals will not be accepted. Dealing with COVID-19 it is more important than ever to have face-to-face interaction with a doctor. Specifically, there is concerns that COVID-19 could impact student athletes with cardiac and mental health issues.
STEP #2 - Pay athletic fee (see info below) in person @ Rocky Mountain High School (be sure to see office hours on the home page, Athletic Office Info tab). Students who do not pay will not be allowed to participate. No family maximum.

For all other schools, initial eligibility will be found out once we contact athlete's school. Athlete must turn the orange card into the coach by first day of try-outs (this hand-off , from athlete to coach, lets the coach know the athlete is cleared/eligible to participate in his/her sport).
If the orange "permit to practice" card has not been handed off to the coach by official date of Aug. 3 for golfers, Aug. 10 for all other approved sports, athlete may not participate further, until, permit is given to the coach.
EXCEPT FOR GOLFERS, PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF TRYOUTS (Aug. 10) to get an orange card!!!
